I have recently added a new plug-in to my Firefox called Who Stole My Pictures. It lets you right-click on an image and choose from 3 different image search engines (TinEye, Google, and a Russian site called Yandex.ru). I have used the first two before to look for my images to see who might be posting or selling them without giving me credit or without my permission, but Yandex.ru was a new one to me. It seems that a lot of my artwork is being used on Russian and other international sites of all sorts - illustrations for blogs, artwork for articles, Facebook profile pics, on-line jigsaw puzzles, even graphics for video games, and now today I found one that is a cross-stitch pattern, complete with a picture of finished piece, the color scheme and the grid for the stitches and colors. I was blown away!! They used "Apo Jelly Armada", which was my first DD, and actually took the time and effort to create a cross-stitch pattern, work out all the colors and then actually make the piece. This is the pdf file of the instructions. I figure if they can steal my art and create something for download under their name, then I can take their work and provide it for download under my name. Take that, Russian scoundrel! (Though, I do think he/she did a pretty good job on the cross-stitch. What do you think?)
If you're into cross-stitch, you might want to give this a try. I can't tell how large a piece it is, but it's 250 stitches wide by 188 stitches high. That's a total of 47,000 total stitches! That's quite a few! Also, I have included an English translation of the color scheme on Page 2 so you can try to match the colors based on the name.
Here is a thumb of the original artwork of "Apo Jelly Armada" that was pilfered and used for this cross stitch:
Original image was created using Apo 2.08 (sounds so long ago) and postwork done in GIMP.
Let me know if you actually attempt to make this piece. I used to do quite a bit of cross-stitch and have designed my own patterns as well and I know how hard and tedious it can be, especially for a big piece with lots of detail and different colors.
